This February, The Sustainable Living Institute presents the Sustainable Living Educational Series
The best educators in sustainability will convene in Hilo, Hawai`i to teach a series of classes on Sustainable Living. This series continues in Kona, Hawai`i during the month of February. Currently seeking additional sponsors. The next series will also feature classes with a straight-forward approach to living a more sustainable lifestyle on Hawai`i Island. Specific classes and instructor will be announced soon.

Nov. 6th Rainwater Harvesting - SOLD OUT! Mahalo for a great class!
Instructor Christine Leonard-Osterwalder, MBA, M.Div Christine will guide your through the basics of rainwater collection from a broad perspective including landscape design, commercial, agricultural, residential use, sustainability, disaster preparedness and living off-grid. Christine will share and explore with attendees, a fresh look at water in general, water use, and what water means to people. She will also cover some social, geographic, economic, global, and spiritual implications.

Nov. 13th Alternative Power Basics - SOLD OUT! Mahalo for a great class! You’ll get valuable insight into various alternative power generation systems. Learn to spec a basic solar system including all the system parts and their relative costs. Net metering and grid-tie options will be presented. Pros and Cons of various alternative energy systems will be presented for discussion. This class could potentially save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in total alternative energy system costs.

Nov. 20th Organic Gardening - SOLD OUT! Mahalo for a great class! Permaculture Expert Zach Mermel returns to teach us the basics of growing our own food. Specifically, in this one-hour workshop, participants will gain a basic understanding of how to use nature’s principles to produce their own food . We will discuss soil-building strategies, growing techniques and tropical food crops. Do not miss this event!

Nov. 25th Sustainability 101 - SOLD OUT! Mahalo for a great class! Brent Norris from Green Collar Technologies will provide an overview of sustainability efforts and best practices. This class will help folks understand the value of living lightly on the land. Many real-life examples of folks living off-the-grid will be covered. Self-reliance techniques will be covered for anyone wanting to live a more sustainable life on Hawai`i Island. Specific techniques for living a “greener” lifestyle will be shared and discussed. Join us and learn how to apply various sustainability techniques in your everyday life.
