Hawai`i Island Green Business Directory
One of our first tasks here at Green Collar Technologies is to create a directory of all the sustainability projects and businesses on Hawai`i Island. We have some very specific goals and if you can help with any of these goals, please let us know.
Current List of goals for the directory:
- Low entry barrier for participation (perhaps free with some sort of required logo program)
- Online with ability to print in high quality on demand
- No advertisements
- Learn about the current state of Green Hawaii Businesses
- Categorized based on needs of users with high degree of usability
- Support photos and video
- Should work well on a cell phone (maybe not the video)
- Secure logins for business that wish to edit their listings
- Information standards – set of requirements for each listing
- Optimized for search engines (so Green Hawaii Businesses can be easily found online)
We won’t be creating this directory without your input. Unless we get input from at least 50 Hawaii Island Businesses, we won’t create the directory. So please participate in our survey.
Please take the 3 minute survey. This provides a standard way for everyone to provide input and share in the development of the directory.
Important! No personal information will be shared. The answers will be compiled into demographics but specific information will not be shared or sold to anyone. Please read our privacy policy.

Regarding advertising… There are currently no plans for advertising. If users of the directory request advertising, we would consider a member-supported model. This wouldn’t happen prior to release and subsequent member involvement.
We will take on a listening and communicating role for the directory at the start but would hope to transition that to a member advisory board.
…and privacy issues. Specifically, the Green Collar Technologies policies would not necessarily apply to the directory.
The privacy policy reference above is currently for the survey. The Directory’s privacy policies would be dictated by the needs of the users.
Options might also be made available for subscribers that do want updates on specific topics.
Changing any preferences, submitting feedback and unsubscribing would be at the discretion of the subscriber.
There would also be a self-service mechanism to retrieve lost passwords, providing the user knows the email address they signed up with. We should probably stick to the best practices of the major social networks like facebook, myspace etc. for starters.
