Green Collar Jobs Training Program - Hawai‘i Island

The Green Jobs Training Program was held over a  six week period with 10 individuals aged 18-24. Each participant started with unique and varied skill levels and backgrounds. Over the course of the program each participant learned to become more self-sufficient and work together as a team.

To carry out this mission we partnered with Goodwill Industries of Hawai‘i in support of their Ola I ‘Ka Hana program and Hawai‘i State Workforce Development in support of their Summer Opportunity Work Experience program.

These programs allowed Green Collar Technologies an opportunity to serve the community and learn youth team building skills. By executing our own Green Collar Jobs Training Program we’ve been able to serve in two main areas of sustainable practices:

Green Collar Jobs Training Program Online Team1. “Online sustainability” practices ie; the development of skills which help trainees learn how to use the Internet to become economically self-sufficient. One goal of online sustainability training is to learn how to telecommute to earn revenue and improve the local economy.

Five of the trainees have learned some of these basic skills including online marketing, video promotion, blogging and working in a team environment. Knowledge, skills and abilities gained included online marketing, search engine optimization and online collaborative communications. Participants are now better prepared for Green technology jobs which require remote collaboration and telecommuting.

Green Collar Jobs Training Program Offline Team2. “Offline sustainability” practices include knowledge, skills and abilities development in rainwater harvesting, growing food and using renewable energy sources for power. However, off-the-grid skills aren’t the only lessons learned.

Five trainees practiced self-sufficiency techniques including, sustainable gardening of food crops, rainwater harvesting storage and usage and renewable energy systems for off-the-grid living.
