Green Collar Technologies Growth
- Intern Program – currently one active intern. Look for possible intern opportunities for UHH students.
- Classes – Sustainable Living Educational Series ended last week (July 31st). A different class was held every Thursday night at 6pm in July. Amazing lineup of the best Sustainabilty instructors on Hawaii Island.
- Sustainable Web Platforms and Designs – Through a collaboration with Mark McGuffie at HIEDB.org an agreement has been made with NELHA to install the first green web server (prototype) on the Hawaii Island.
- Green Collar Technologies Advisory Board – With acceptance from three members of the community we will continue to grow our board. A formal announcement if forthcoming.
Green Collar Technologies Goals
- Raise awareness of the Green Collar Job Board. The Green Job Board has had no employer involvement. We still believe this to be an important effort and will keep it alive. Green Collar jobs do appear regularly on the job board but Hawaii Island employers are still either unaware of the availability of the board, do not have an interest in posting or are not offering any green collar jobs.
- Hawaii Island Sustainable Business Directory. Although we have gained interest from Trisha Macomber at CTAHR, we still need more involvement. We will be raising awareness for this project in the coming weeks and months. Beta launch in July.
- Web 2.0 and Online Marketing Educational Series in September. Look for details soon.
- Hawaii Island Digital Economies Forum – We are addressing the need to improve our island’s digital economies. By gathering local experts and change agents we hope to facilitate a discussion of currents efforts and outcomes we wish to achieve.
Community Support
- We have developed a key partnership with Daniel Morii and his 501c3, the Sustainable Living Institute.
- We are engaged in discussions with the County of Hawaii Research and Development Department to organize and deliver the Sustainable Living Educational Series, island-wide.
- We presented “Going Green to Improve your Bottom Line” to the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Hawaii. This was for the local State Department of Labor Workforce Development Office in Hilo.
We have been enjoying the support of the community. Everyone we talk to understands the value proposition of providing educational resources to green collar workers. We maintain and cherish a handful of key partnerships that have opened doors, provided mentoring and enabled our classes.
We still need your help. We are currently “not funded” by any community, government or institutional programs. In other words, we are still doing this as volunteers.
Our programs do have associative costs and volunteerism simply isn’t sustainable for the level of positive change we seek. We’ve created some amazing sponsor packages for anyone interested in moving us forward to the next level. If you would like more affordable, “sustainable” education on Hawaii Island, please call Brent at 896-7656. We are seeking Grant Writers, more Volunteers, Instructors, Interns and more Partners to help us provide educational opportunities for everyone on Hawaii Island.
Mahalo for your time and continued support.
