Hawaii Island Sustainability – Powered by You.
Simply put, our events cannot happen without volunteer and sponsor support. So if you’ve got some time to volunteer, we’ve got some real needs. We’re currently trying to fill the following volunteer positions:
- Event Staff - about 3 hours per class.
- Description: Helps ensure smooth delivery of educational opportunities.
- Responsibilities: Help setup and take down classes. Help attendees and students get value and enjoyment from their time in our classes. Class and event registration, catering, class and a/v setup, basically whatever needs your help.
- Upcoming Events:
- February – Sustainable Living Educational Series – four classes in Kona
- Sustainability Update – March 20th at the Palace in Hilo
- April through September – Ecommerce, Marketing and Social Media Series – 12 weekly classes in Hilo.
- Educational Opportunity Manager – about 20 hours per week.
- Description: Help bring all the elements of our classes together. Help ensure classes are presented in a way that is educational and professional. This position helps ensure that the folks that attend our classes are becoming more self-sufficient.
- Responsibilities: Help get the community involved in our classes. The person in this position has a direct role in the success of our educational offerings. Take part in all aspects of delivering courses in sustainable practices and help us create educational opportunities that help prepare Hawaii Island as a global model for sustainability.

- Public Outreach Professional - about 20 hours per week.
- Description: This position is largely responsible for the attendance of our events. The person working in this position executes marketing tasks that help get the word our about our classes.
- Responsibilities: Helps spread information about our classes to the local government, sponsors and general public. You will help folks learn what they need to live more sustainable lives on Hawaii Island.
