Great day with tons of vendors and attendees for this event. We spent the day in the Prince Kuhio Plaza talking story with folks about Section 508 compliance for websites.

Section 508 compliance requires federal aggencies to operate their websites in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The bridge between strict 508 compliance and small business profit is Web Accessibility.

Web Accessibility means building websites that are usable by everyone. This includes folks with special abilities including low bandwidth and old computers. This is how we build all our websites for our Sustainable Web Community. This is also the very nature of the paltforms we promote for small business. The upside for small business is the fact that major search engines also like “accessible” websites due the the semantic nature of their code. Okay ’nuff ’bout that.

Today was about the bigger picture and the “Abled Hawai’i Artist- Big Island 2nd Annual Art Festival” and the folks that made it possible. Mahalos to Mar Ortaleza for making it happen. We don’t know all the sponsors but special thanks seem to be in order to “Marty” for emcee duties. It was easy to tell from a distance that everything was very well received.

Sustainability is for everyone and today’s event highlighted that fact. Mar mentioned this very eloquently in his opening. Special mahalo to Howard Shapiro from Recycle Hawaii and Artists for the Environment for the goodies and the Earth Partriot CD. Special thanks to Bill Cullifer, Executive Director and Founder of the World Organization of Webmasters for joining us live via Google video conference from Sacremento, California.
