Zach Mermel is a permaculture designer, educator and consultant who has been actively involved in the sustainability movement for the better part of a decade. Zach blends his academic training in environmental science with a hands-on education in permaculture design to create beneficial relationships between people and place. During his final two years at Humboldt State University, Zach served as a director of HSU’s renowned Campus Center for Appropriate Technology (CCAT), and oversaw compost operations for the entire Humboldt State campus.
In addition to having taken advanced courses in Permaculture, Zach is also trained in GrowBiointensive gardening and edible & medicinal mushroom cultivation. Born and raised on the Big Island, Zach has a contagious passion for enhancing sustainable living practices at the household, community and island level.
