At present Leilani Estates on Hawaii Island is under a mandatory evacuation. We are offering our support to groups, organizations, associations and others interested in helping folks in lower Puna affected by the lava flow.

As details emerge we will update this page with additional information. At present we are writing letters to government officials and key decision makers offering our support.

If you have been evacuated and need a place to go, there are shelters open. Keep reading!

Update 5/3/18 8:30PM

From the office of councilperson Jen Ruggles:

ERUPTION BREAKOUT IN LEILANI ESTATES

UPDATE: I am at the civil defense office, the National Gaurd and police are stationing at Pahoa communty center..PGV is closing down.

Civil Defense saying we have enough volunteers to help with the evacuation and is requesting people stay out the subdivision.

For anyone wishing to donate supplies, (PHONE CHARGERS, TENTS, BLANKETS, PILLOWS, TOWELS, WET WIPES, DIAPERS, TARPS) call John Drummond 808-937-2182 who is managing one of the shelters (dont know if it’s keaau or Pahoa), or just bring them.

We just received word from Civil Defense that a lava breakout has just begun on Mohala St. A mandatory evacuation is now taking place on that street, as well as Luana St, Kuapili St, Ho’okupu St, and Makamae St. All other areas are voluntary evacuation. An emergency shelter has been set up at the Pahoa Regional Center. Bring needed items as needed such as food, medicine, blanket and pillow.

Puna Geothermal Venture is currently in the process of shutdown.

Hawaii Volcano Observatory is conducting a flyover of the East Rift Zone for an assessment, and we will post more information when we get it. Stay safe!

UPDATE: Keaau Community Center has also been opened for emergency shelter.
